Introduction
Sundoor Institute is a social welfare organization established by Ms. Chen Wenjing and dedicated to caring for and educating children, older people, and vulnerable farmers in remote areas of Pingtung County. The institute is currently located in the rural setting of Xingfu Changxin Farm in Gaoshu Township in the north of Pingtung County, at the foot of Tailiao Mountain (map).

Moved by the plight of children from disadvantaged families in remote areas who lacked access to after-school care, Ms. Chen Wenjing decided to take action. Using her life savings, she established Sundoor Institute in 2008 and remains the current chairperson. Her lifelong mission is to provide opportunities to help people in need to overcome their difficult situations.
Sundoor Institute provides free after-school classes all year round, where staff teach academics and morals, as well as environmental issues, agriculture, home economics, and other areas. The children are provided with a safe space to write homework, play and learn.
Meals are provided, as well as assistance with issues such as domestic violence and social welfare. The after-school care program helps to promote the children’s holistic development and alleviate pressure on their families. The goal is to help create a brighter future for children living in remote areas, nurturing hope in an atmosphere of love and warmth.
Some of the services provided by Sundoor are shown below.
Get Involved
If you would like to support Sundoor Institute, financial donations are gratefully received. Another great way to get involved is to volunteer your time and/or talent. Perhaps you can lead a dance class, coach a sport, or teach a skill. Or perhaps you could come and teach English. In particular, we are looking for teachers to come and help out for a few days in August during the annual summer camp. For more information and if you have any other ideas please contact us at sundoor@greentourism.org.tw.
Sundoor also produces a range of food products, and all profits go to funding the work of the institute. The pineapple cakes are probably the best known item, and the full range of products can be found at https://www.happiness-sundoor99.com.

Rural Family Support Services
Targeting disadvantaged families in the Gaoshu Township area, this program provides supportive and complementary welfare services in a community-based model, along with parenting empowerment activities to enhance parental skills.

Elderly Care Services
Regular blood pressure monitoring and meal services are provided weekly to the elderly. Active and passive activities are arranged to enrich their physical and mental well-being. For elderly people living alone, volunteers visit regularly to provide care and support, and long-term meal delivery services are provided.

Free After-School Tutoring
This program offers academic tutoring, moral education, and courses in household and agricultural skills. It aims to help children learn self-reliance, self-help, and empathy while alleviating the financial pressure on parents.

Love is Change: Supporting Self-Reliance, Deep Cultivation, and Deep Roots
Out of a sense of responsibility to society and the land, we grow fruits and vegetables including pineapples, dragon fruit, tomatoes, and kale in the pure mountain water and soil of Gaoshu, using pesticide-free farming methods. We combine this with the development of high-quality “safe fruits and vegetables” by local small farmers, offering the best agricultural products to customers.

Skills Training
By applying for government vocational training funds, this initiative trains disadvantaged women and middle-aged to older workers in acquiring a skill to enhance their employability and family care abilities.

Community Industry Development
We aim to not only care for children but also to drive community and local economic development, making local industries visible to society. Furthermore, we actively assist in improving the trading platform economy for disadvantaged farmers. By improving the economy, we can transform the structure of disadvantaged families.
